Katerina Henderson, Chair of the Blue Moon Foundation, met Laurie McRae through their workplace. We were two moms who connected because we shared one thing in common...a child with Autism.
A friendship was born, a tribe developed, and a vision was created.
Our directors are a passionate group of mama bears who have children with Autism and want to make a difference in the Autism community.
We love our kiddos and want to help shape the future of other children on the Spectrum.
The Garrett McRae Foundation was founded in 2012 and raised over $50,000 from then until 2019. These funds were used to improve existing programs in place at Kerry’s Place Autism Services; assisted in funding a partnership with Kerry’s Place and the McMichael Art Gallery; provided a free week long social skills camp for 13 children with Autism; paid tuition fees for private schooling for a York Region family; $3,500 cash donation to Camp Kirk; and the purchase of an Autism Assistance Dog for a York Region family.
In 2019, the Garrett McRae Foundation was kindly handed over to friends of the McRae family, who carried on a passion for making a difference in the Autism community. The Henderson family renamed the charity the Blue Moon Foundation. Laurie McRae (Garrett’s mother and former Co-Chair of the Garrett McRae Foundation) is still an active member of the foundation.
